This week, we’re exploring clove essential oil. Although clove is most commonly recognised as an aromatic spice for cooking, you’d be surprised how powerful this concentrated oil can be for a range of different ailments.
Clove oil has several therapeutic uses, and can assist with issues such as digestion and toothaches to nausea and even repelling insects. Keep reading as we share 7 of the best ways to use clove oil for health and wellness below!
Clove oil for digestion
One of the more traditional uses for clove essential oil is to aid with digestion issues such as bloating, indigestion and discomfort. The active ingredients in clove essential oil can help to stimulate enzymes, which in turn promotes good digestion. Mix 2 drops of clove essential oil with a carrier oil like coconut oil, and massage gently into the abdomen to help relieve discomfort.
Clove oil for toothaches
Clove oil is also commonly used to relieve toothache pain, with its medicinal purposes dating back centuries. If you struggle with toothaches, add 1 drop of diluted clove oil to a cotton bud and press onto the affected area for up to 15 minutes. Alternatively, create your own toothache relief gargle using 2 drops of clove oil in a glass of warm water.
Clove oil for acne control
One of the main constituents of clove essential oil is eugenol - a powerful anti-inflammatory antioxidant that can assist with acne and skin problems. Clove essential oil can help to reduce the inflammation of acne, while also killing bacteria to prevent further breakouts.
On its own, clove oil can be irritating to sensitive skin, so it’s important to dilute properly before topical application. Mix 1 part clove oil with 10 parts carrier oil such as coconut oil or jojoba oil, and apply directly to acne with a clean cotton swab before allowing to dry.
Clove oil for fungal infections
Clove oil has strong antibacterial and antifungal properties, making it ideal for fighting fungal infections like Candida, Athlete’s Foot and Halitosis. For fungal skin infections, dilute clove oil with a carrier oil and apply topically. For internal fungal infections like Candida or intestinal parasites, add a few drops of clove oil to warm water to create a clove tea.
Clove oil for headache pain
To help relieve sharp headache pain, mix a few drops of clove oil with a carrier oil and massage gently into the temples.
Clove oil for natural insect repellent
Clove oil has become a go-to remedy for toxin-free pest control. Create your own natural insect repellent by mixing 2-3 drops each of clove oil, peppermint oil and lemon oil with a spray bottle of water. Spritz in any affected areas to help repel insects!
Clove oil for stress relief
The warm, woody and aromatic scent of clove essential oil makes it a great stress-reliever. Diffuse clove oil throughout your home or workspace to create a relaxed and restful environment!
