6 Simple Ways to Detox Your Body Naturally After the Holidays!
by Janice FERGUSON on Oct 02, 2020
The festive season is a well-deserved time to relax, unwind and celebrate with loved ones. But often the holidays make us neglect our healthy habits, leaving us feeling slow and sluggish when we enter the new year!
A healthy lifestyle is all about balance, so don’t feel guilty about overindulging during the holidays. Instead, reset your body and get back on track with a natural detox.
Here are a few ideas to help you remove toxins and get your digestive system moving after the festive season.
Start your day with a glass of sole
You may have heard about the benefits of drinking warm water and lemon in the morning. But have you heard of Himalayan salt sole?
Sole (pronounced sol-ay) is essentially water that has been fully saturated with Himalayan salt. This makes the solution extremely mineral-rich, helping to detox your body naturally and flush out all of those nasty toxins you may have accumulated over the holidays. As well as digestion, sole can also assist with glowing skin and better sleep.
To make your own DIY sole solution, simply fill a mason jar halfway with Himalayan salt. Top up the jar with water, seal it, and leave the solution to sit overnight. If all of the salt has disappeared in the morning, add another ½ cup and leave for another 6 hours. If you can still see salt crystals in the jar, your solution is fully saturated and good to go!
To ingest, simply add 1 teaspoon of sole to a glass of filtered water and drink each morning to kickstart your digestive system.
Soak in Himalayan salt
Another way to use Himalayan salt for detoxing is through a relaxing bath soak. Soaking in Himalayan salt allows your body to absorb all 84+ trace minerals (including potassium, magnesium and calcium) through the process of osmosis. Try to soak at least 2-3 times a week for up to 30 minutes at a time for best results.
Drink more water
Staying hydrated is essential to help your body flush out toxins after the holiday season - aim for at least 8 cups a day. Try to get into the routine of carrying a reusable drink bottle throughout the day to help you hit your target.
Massage your stomach with essential oils
After all of the delicious food and drink consumed over the holiday season, you might be feeling a little bloated, puffy and uncomfortable. To reduce inflammation, create your own natural massage oil by combining a carrier oil (like coconut or jojoba) with 1-2 drops each of peppermint, lemongrass, geranium and frankincense. Massage gently into your tummy to de-bloat and stimulate digestion.
Eat plant-based meals
Eating a diet rich in plant-based foods is another great way to nourish and rebalance your body. Make sure you consume plenty of fresh fruits, veggies and plant-based proteins after the holidays to help your body get back into a healthy routine. Try to steer clear of sugar, alcohol, caffeine and other irritants for a couple of weeks while your body flushes out all of the holiday toxins!
Ramp up your exercise
Incorporating some gentle exercise into your daily routine will also help your body feel better after the holidays. You don’t need to spend hours at the gym, but try to add some morning walks, yoga, hikes or fitness classes into your post-holiday schedule.
